Lukancic Middle School language arts teacher Christy Rush-Levine will be featured in several short video segments on Choice Literacy, a subscription-only website designed to help teachers across the country learn about, and understand best teaching practices.
Choice Literacy video cameras visited Rush-Levine’s classes May 4 and 5 to capture the veteran VVSD teacher in action.
“This is an opportunity to showcase the hard work that my students have been doing,” said Rush-Levine, who has written a variety of articles that have appeared on ChoiceLiteracy.com.
“It’s exciting. It’s an honor.”
“She’s really an amazing teacher,” said Choice Literacy founder Brenda Power. “In working with great teachers, I’ve found that the more you capture what they’re doing in a normal day, the more you capture their brilliance. There’s nothing like seeing a teacher in action.”
Power, who lives in Maine, interviewed Rush Levine on such topics as engaging students in both reading and writing, organizing small groups, conferring with students, understanding the individual personalities of students and how that affects the books they choose to read, and the challenges and rewards of teaching.
“We showcase K through 12 teachers from across the country because I believe they need to have a voice in policy and instruction,” Power said.
Choice Literacy utilizes literacy coaches, teachers and school leaders throughout the country to post the best tools, guides and literacy lessons along with the latest thinking on topics like standards and technology.
Rush-Levine’s video segments will be posted to the website in the near future.
