Lewis University and TheDream.US Scholarship fund have partnered to provide scholarships to qualified immigrant students who came to this country as young children, or DREAMers. TheDream.US is the nation’s largest scholarship program that targets undocumented immigrant students who have Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) or Temporary Protected Status (TPS) authorization status but are not eligible to apply for federal financial aid to support a college education.
Scholarships will cover tuition and fees up to a maximum of $33,000 for a Lewis University bachelor’s degree. Lewis University has committed to funding the gap in financial assistance to TheDream.US Scholars so that they may attend Lewis University with 100 percent of their tuition and fees covered.
Both high school students enrolling in Lewis University as well as community college associate degree recipients who wish to finish their bachelor’s degree at a partner university are eligible to apply.
“We are excited to be able to serve DREAMers in Illinois, which is the home of many highly motivated DREAMers who want nothing more than to go to college and contribute to their families and the Chicago area,” said Candy Marshall, president of TheDream.US.
To be eligible, students must be approved for DACA or TPS status or DACA eligible, have demonstrated financial need and the determination to succeed in college and in life.
“As a Catholic university in the Lasallian tradition, Lewis University is committed to supporting these engaged members of our community who academically qualify for admission yet have added challenges due to their immigration status,” Raymond Kennelly, senior vice president for Enrollment Management, Marketing and Planning, said. “Our students will continue to add great value after they graduate as neighbors, friends, and contributing members of our workforce. This partnership will help provide resources for their success.”
