Local, county and state elected officials along with community labor leaders will join Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant to show their support for her to election for Will County Executive on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 5 p.m. at the Teamsters Local 179 Union Hall.
Bertino-Tarrant made the decision after incumbent Executive Larry Walsh, Sr. announced he would not seek another term after first winning in 2004.
“As Larry transitions to retirement, the need for passion, sincerity and commitment to all of Will County won’t cease, and I’m the right candidate to continue his strong record of constituent service, leading with integrity and expanding our economy to tackle the challenges of the 21st century,” Bertino-Tarrant said.
Bertino-Tarrant is the former Will County Regional Superintendent of Schools and is now finishing her second term as state senator in the 49th District. At the statehouse, she represents large portions of Will County, including the communities of Shorewood, Plainfield, Bolingbrook, Romeoville, Crest Hill and Joliet.
Bertino-Tarrant says she’s ready to bring her no-nonsense, bipartisan style to the Will County Executive’s Office to help move the region into the next phase of growth and development.
“Will County continues to be one of the most prosperous regions in the Midwest to live, raise a family and build a business, and we have a duty to work together to make sure this continues,” Bertino-Tarrant said. “To do that, I’m committed to finding balance and working together keep our communities safe, stimulate our economy and provide our children with the opportunity to thrive. Unfortunately, public officials are losing sight of the importance of balance and partnership, but I’m ready to fight hard for the opportunity to bring all of Will County together.”
Bertino-Tarrant serves as the chair the Senate Education Committee where she has advocated for legislative fixes to help end the teacher shortage crisis across Illinois. Throughout her legislative career, she has served as Vice Chair for the Committee on Labor, a member of the Transportation, Local Government, Pensions and Licensed Activities committees.
The event is open and free to the press and local residents.
