9-8 Sports roundup: Soccer, golf and volleyball results

Plainfield East soccer continued its hot start with a 3-0 win over Joliet Central. Goals for the Bengals (6-1-1, 2-0) were all scored by Nico Berthalet, with two assists from Marlon Auzero and a helper from Ramiro Tovar. Manuel Guiterrez had four saves in the shutout.

Benet beat Waubounsie Valley 4-0. Ben Kelly scored two goals, while Devin Martini and Connor Mote scored the others. Mote, Franklin Rutkowski and Jason Rowaiye had assists.

GOLF

Maine South girls fell to Prospect 175-196.

•Benet girls beat Glenbard West 159-203 as Lauren Beaudreau fired a 34.

VOLLEYBALL

Romeoville beat Oswego East 28-26, 26-24. Lyric Miles had 12 kills, while Payton Koranda adding five.

•Minooka (6-2, 2-0) beat Plainfield South (1-1) 25-16, 25-18. Rocky Perinar totaled 14 kills for the Indians, while Holly Bonde had seven kills, Taylor Baranski had 15 digs, Alli Papesh had 11 digs and Brooklyn Bachmann had 21 assists.

The Indians play Tuesday at home vs. Joliet Central in their fifth annual “Hit for Hugs” game.  This year the Shorewood Hugs will be giving out their 500th wish to Minooka graduate Cadence Niccum. She was a 2015 graduate of MCHS. She was very active on the dance and Arrowette teams. She was diagnosed with Stage three Hodgkins Lymphoma during her fall semester (2015) of her freshman year at Illinois State. Varsity game starts at 5:30, presentation will be between varsity and sophomore games. Admission is free for anyone who donates a coat for the Shorewood Hugs Coat Drive.
