The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced the Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars on July 26, naming four Lewis University men’s golfers to the list.

Ryan Ballard (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) possessing a cumulative GPA of 3.73, Trent Smith (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac Township) had a 3.87, Jack Korzon (Downers Grove, Ill.) closed out the year with a 3.31, and Austin Buente (Troy, Ill./Triad) rounded out the list of Flyers with 3.27.

“I am extremely proud of our four team members, they are all outstanding examples of what it truly means to be a student-athlete and not just an athlete.” Lewis head men’s golf coach Skip Steffey said. “We have never had four team members achieve this distinction in the same year before, it is very hard to meet the academic and athletic standards required for this honor.  We are thankful for the support that our athletes receives from the faculty, staff, academic support personnel and the athletic administration to help make this possible.”

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.

A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
