Bugle reports
Romeoville Mayor John Noak is taking full responsibility for driving intoxicated last month after giving his annual state of the village speech.
Noak said he entered a plea agreement with the Will County State’s Attorney’s office. He was given one-year supervision, $1,500 fine and must submit to alcohol evaluation and attend a victim panel.
Noak was arrested April 12 and charged with driving under the influence at about 5:46 p.m. regarding a possible intoxicated driver driving west on Belmont Avenue. A short time after the call, police observed the vehicle driving west on Romeo Road just west of Belmont.
The officer stopped the vehicle, driven by Noak, and determined through a field sobriety test that he was driving under the influence, police said. He was issued traffic tickets for driving under the influence, improper lane usage and driving without proper proof of insurance.
“I take full responsibility for the incident and want to publicly apologize to my family, friends and community for what happened. I am deeply sorry, and I assure everyone that nothing like this will happen again,” said Noak.
Later reports indicated that during Noak’s arrest, he made threats to the police who were handling the case.
“I have already met with the police department to express my apologies for what happened that evening and to assure them that the entire department has my full support,” said Noak. “Everyone involved at the police department acted appropriately during this entire situation, especially the two responding officers who performed their duties with complete professionalism. I would also like to commend the officers for what they did that evening. The reality is that they also came to aid, and I cannot thank them enough for that. They are both incredible assets to our community.”
He also thanked his friends, family and residents that have expressed their support during this difficult time.
“Everyone is human and can make mistakes, myself included. I look forward to continuing the great work we have been doing in Romeoville,” Noak said.
