Top-ranked Hawks, Raiders, Redwings and Hilltoppers, take on State-Ranked opponents in Week 2

Road trips, to mighty Chicago Mount  Carmel, Western Big 6 Conference power, Moline  and two-time defending Class 3A state champion, Immaculate Conception, await Terrific Ten Area Rankings leaders, No. 1 Maine South, No. 3 Benet Academy and No. 4 JCA on Friday night.
The second-ranked Raiders of Bolingbrook, will host the mighty North Stars of St. Charles North,
Southwest Prairie Conference action will have a full Week 2, slate of games. Plainfield North, Plainfield South and Joliet Central, look to improve to 2-0 in SPC play.
The 5th-ranked  Dons of Notre Dame, look to improve to 2-0, with a win over Oak Forest, in the Dons’ home-opener on Friday night.
The undefeated  Lions of Lisle, host the Panthers of Manteno, in the Lions home-opener at Benedictine University,on Friday.
Maine East, Niles West, Westmont, Lockport, Downers Grove South and Downers Grove North, hope around 10 on Friday night, they have picked up their first win of the season.

Hawks senior quarterback Bobby Inserra, leads Maine South, to Chicago’s south side and a date with the Caravan, at Gately Stadium.
Inserra ran for 124 yards, including a a 69-yard touchdown and threw a pair of touchdowns, to Hawk junior wide receiver, Danny Lazic (61 yards) and Ryan Kilburg (13 yards), in the Hawks 35-14 demolition of Glenbard West. Lazic added a five-yard touchdown run.

The Hawk defense was led by linebackers Jimmy Bartell and Luke Anthony Preston. Bartell added a five-yard rushing touchdown against Glenbard West.

Chicago Catholic League Green power Mount Carmel, defeated Hope Academy 42-7, in the Northern Illinois University Huskie Kickoff Classic, on Saturday, in DeKalb. The Caravan are led by senior quarterback Rad Premovic and junior, running back Kyle Davis.

Raider senior fullback, David Williams Jr, ran wild in the Raiders 35-0 season opening victory, over Downers Grove South in Week 1. Williams rushed for 161 yards and scored two touchdowns. Williams also caught three passes, including a touchdown pass, from Raider junior quarterback, Devyn Suggs, for 68 more yards. H-F transfer,Suggs threw for 93 yards and the touchdown, in his first Raider start at quarterback. Raider senior running back, Quintin Pringle, scored a pair of touchdowns and  was just shy of the century-mark with 95 yards.
In a total team defensive effort, the vaunted Raider “D” was one of 38 schools in Illinois, in Week One to shutout their Week One opponent.
St. Charles North defeated Schaumburg 23-16 in its season-opener last week. The DuKane Conference power, North Stars, are  led by quarterback Preston Brown, who completed 8 of his 17 passes for 151 yards and three touchdowns. Sam DeMarco led the North Stars with 83 yards on the ground. Alex Kritta, hauled in four of Brown’s tosses, two for touchdowns, for 78 yards. Ty Nubin caught four passes for 70 yards, including a touchdown pass from Brown

After shocking state-ranked St. Rita last Friday, the Hilltoppers travel to Elmhurst, to face the two-time defending Class 3A state champion Knights. After running for almost 400 yards between them against St. Rita, Hilltoppers’ senior halfback Keenan Hailey (233 yards, 3 TDs) and senior fullback, Nick Iannantone (158 yards), look to do the same on Friday behind “The Big Dogs”, the Hilltopper “O” line.
Immaculate Conception traveled to Illinois Wesleyan University, in Bloomington, on Saturday and destroyed state-ranked Belleville Althoff 50-14, in the Knights season opener.
Knights senior tailback,Kyle Franklin,ran past the Althoff defense,for 204 yards and scored four touchdowns. Knight fullback Steve Cracy, scored a pair of touchdowns and ran for 146 yards.

On Friday afternoon, the state-ranked Redwings, will board their bus for a trip south on I-355, I-55 and then west, on I-80 to the Quad Cities, to take on the state-ranked Maroons. Redwing senior quarterback Colin Gillespie, scored two rushing touchdowns and threw for 214 yards,in Saturday’s 27-10 thumping of St. Laurence, at NIU.
Redwing senior WR/DB Jack Cooney, stuffed the stat sheet, with four receptions from Gillespie, for 104 yards, a 28-yard punt return that set up a Redwing touchdown and an interception  on defense. Defensive End Jack Benish, led the Redwing defense that did not allow a touchdown against St. Laurence. The Vikings only touchdown, was scored on a 70-yard Pick-6.
Moline, romped past traditional-power Geneseo, at Geneseo, 36-3, last Friday night, led by 6-foot-4 junior tight end, Josh Pauwles. Pauwles hauled in four passes for 90 yards, to set up four Maroon touchdowns.

The Dons can’t get caught looking ahead to Marist next week, in their East Suburban Conference Catholic opener, September 7 and must take care of business against Oak Forest. The returning East Suburban Catholic Conference Player of the Year, Ty Gavin, scored three touchdowns, in the first quarter, as the Dons annihilated Geneva, last week. A very impressive debut for Don’s sophomore  quarterback Anthony Sayles. Sayles rushed for 114 yards including a 90-yard dash to the end zone. Sayles also chipped in with 60 passing yards.

Last year’s Don Quarterback, Luke Shutt, now playing at running back, rambled for 90 yards on nine carries. The Dons “D” totally shut down the host Vikings attack.

Another Plainfield School District 202 rivalry game, will take place on Plainfield’s north side. Plainfield North’s junior Eben Heine’s 42-yard field goal with 3:38 left, led the Tigers past Joliet West 22-19, in Week One. In the first quarter Heine nailed a 42-yard field goal, to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead. Tiger running backs,Jaylon Tillman and Nate Simpson, scored the Tiger touchdowns, while DB Garret Cook, led the Tiger defense with two interceptions.
Plainfield Central hung with seven-time defending SPC champion Oswego before Wildcat turnovers led to a 35-0 defeat, to the Panthers. The Wildcats look to rebound behind Nick Barner.

Minooka, looks to get their Hall of Fame Head Coach, John Belskis, his first win, at the helm of the Indian program, on Friday night. Standing in the way of Belskis and his Indians, are the seven-time defending, Southwest Prairie Conference champions, from Oswego. The Panthers blanked Plainfield East, 19-0 in their season-opener in Week One. Panther senior running back Charles Coleman scored all three Oswego touchdowns and ran for 136 yards.
The Indians fell to their archrivals, Plainfield South 14-7, in another edition of the heated “Battle of Ridge  Road” rivalry, in Week One. Junior wingback, Connor Etzkorn, scored the lone Indian touchdown, on a 25-yard reception from Indian quarterback Seth Lehr, who  threw for 140 yards in the defeat. Junior wingback Steven Gonzales, rushed for 665 yards an caught four passes for another 55 yards receiving.

Joliet Central looks to improve to 2-0, with a home-opening win, over the Bengals.The Steelmen rolled past Romeoville in Week One, behind senior quarterback Jared King. Ke’Andre Wiley and Demaras Stanley, wreaked havoc on the Spartan offense, last Friday. 
The Bengals committed four turnovers in their 19-0 Week One defeat at Oswego East last week. Senior quarterback Ben Mazurkiewiez, completed eight of his 21 passes for just 63 yards. Sophomore running back,Taven Washington, led the Bengal ground attack with 24 yards.

After beating Minooka, for the second consecutive year in the ‘Battle of Ridge Road” rivalry game, the Cougars look to improve to 2-0 with a home-opening win over the Spartans. Cougar senior quarterback, Cody Dieball, ran for 63 yards and scored both Cougar touchdowns, against Minooka. Cougar defensive end Adriel Montemayor, led the vaunted Cougar “D” at Minooka. After allowing a first-quarter Indian touchdown pass, the Cougars slammed the door on the Indians the rest of the game.
“The Ville” looks to rebound from its 26-6 Week One loss at the hands of Joliet Central. Spartan WR Joe De La Rosa, who’s 20-yard touchdown reception from junior quarterback Josh Gibson, against the Steelmen, hopes to lead the Spartans, to their first win, on the road Friday.

OSWEGO EAST (1-0, 1-0) at JOLIET WEST (0-1, 0-1) 7 
The Tigers look to win their home opener against the Wolves, behind senior tailback Jalen Taylor and quarterback Alfonso Sanchez. In Week One’s heart-breaking 19-17 loss to Plainfield North, Taylor rushed for 92 yards and scored on an 18-yard jaunt, to the end zone, to pull the Tigers within 17-10 in the third quarter.

With 8;33 left in the game, Sanchez scored on a seven-yard scamper and then hit DJ Dobbs, on a two-point conversion, for a 18-17 Tiger lead. Sanchez threw for 83 yards, 47 of them to Tiger standout wide-receiver, Kevon Dorris, who caught three balls for the 47 yards.

Sadly, for the Tigers, North’s junior place kicker, Eben Heine, nailed his second, 42-yard field goal to give the North Tigers the win.

Oswego East blanked Plainfield East 19-0 in its Southwest Prairie Conference in Week One, behind the Wolves quarterback duo of Cody Fern and Corey Provo. Provo scored a pair of Wolve’s touchdowns and Fern threw for 97 yards and a touchdown pass.

Demon quarterback Josh Devitt and his favorite-receiver Mike Bobowk to pick up Maine East’s,first win of the season,at Round Lake, on Friday. Devitt threw for 107 yards and a touchdown in the Demons 42-7 loss to Fenton in Week One. Bobowk hauled in four passes for 70 yards and the Demon touchdown.
Round Lake fell 27-20 in its season-opener at Proviso East, in Week One.

LOCKPORT (0-1) AT WHEATON WARRENVILLE SOUTH (1-0) FRIDAY 7:30
The Porters look to rebound from their 38-7,defeat to Providence Catholic at NIU on Saturday. Junior quarterback Marcos Vouligaris threw for 158 yards, in the game and scored the lone Porter, touchdown on a one-yard run that pulled the Porters within 10-7 in the second quarter.Porter wide receiver Malik Makhlouf’s 43-yard reception set up the Vouligaras TD. Makhlouf, had 77 yards receiving on three catches. Joe Edwards chipped in with thee catches for 40 yards.

Jack Olson. All the Wheaton Warrenville South kicker did in the Tigers 26-0 win in Week One, was kick eight, that’s right, eight field goals, over Metea Valley. The Tigers D scored the other two Tiger points and tossed an opening game, shutout at the Mustangs.

The Lions took a long bus ride to Harvard and ran over the Hornets,28-8 in their season-opener last Friday night. Dylan Laue scored a pair of Lion touchdowns while running backs AJ Casmer and Connor Nigro ran wild behind the Lion “O” Line. Casmer, rushed for 138 yards and Nigro plowed ahead for 110 yards and a touchdown.
Manteno lost a 39-20 slugfest to Wilmington, in the Panthers season-opener last Friday night.

OAK PARK (1-0) AT DOWNERS GROVE SOUTH (0-1)
The Mustangs look to rebound, in their home-opener,after last week’s 35-0 defeat at Bolingbrook. Junior QB Jayden Lambert, led the Mustangs with 50 yards rushing. Devean Washington, chipped in with 33 yards rushing and Kennon Johnson, averaged 9.7 yards-per-carry, on three carries. Mustang wide receiver Vinny Provenzano, caught all three of Lambert’s completed passes on the night, for 27 yards.

Oak Park fell 24-17 to Waubonsie Valley, in the Huskies season opener, last Friday.
