The Romeoville Emergency Management Agency (REMA) is a municipal agency comprised of volunteers who are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide additional manpower and resources for public safety.

Emergency responders assist Romeoville’s Police and Fire Departments as well as all of the other village departments as needed.

When it comes to local businesses, REMA can offer suggestions and guidance to those who want to develop their own strategies for disaster response.

REMA can come in and tailor a plan to fit each business, including finding the best places in the building to shelter in
case of severe weather.

They’ll help develop the plan, exercise the plan, and analyze the plan to make improvements.

REMA will also guide businesses to the resources they need, whether that be training in CPR or weather spotting
or the purchase of an all-hazards weather radio system for their building.

“We suggest all businesses get a weather radio,” said REMA Coordinator Mike Littrell. “The tornado sirens are for warning people. They don’t eally tell you what to do and you may not even hear them in your building. These radio receivers will give you instructions and you can install them throughout your building to be sure everyone can hear the warning.”

Even when they’re in the field, REMA is looking out for local businesses. “If we’re on the street directing traffic
during an accident, we’re sensitive to the businesses,” says Emergency Management Sergeant Ted Kruczek. “We
try not to block business entrances.”

If your business would like to collaborate with REMA on being better prepared for an emergency, you can
contact them at 815-886-4085.
