Bolingbrook
Bolingbrook will host several ceremonies on Monday, May 30 including the following:
9:30 a.m. at Boardman Cemetery, West side of Paxson Drive (just north of Royce Road)
10 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery, 384 E. Boughton Road (just east of Bolingbrook Fire Station #3)
11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial in front of Village Hall, 375 W. Briarcliff Road. In the event of rain, the service will be held on the Performing Art Center stage.
The Boardman Cemetery (est. 1832) is the oldest cemetery in Bolingbrook. This cemetery is open to the public two days a year – Memorial Day and Halloween.
A historic burying ground, Boardman Cemetery will be open to the public for tours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Members of the Bolingbrook Historic Preservation Commission will be stationed at the Royce Road cemetery to answer questions about the cemetery’s history. But first, the Bolingbrook V.F.W. and the American Legion will start off the day with a memorial service at the cemetery at 9:30 a.m. At least one Civil War veteran is buried at Boardman.
Romeoville
Romeoville will host services at 10 a.m., Monday, May 30 at the Edward “Doc” McCartan Veterans Memorial at 11 Montrose Drive. Keynote speakers include Congressman Dan Lipinski and Vietnam War veteran Ken Griffin.
Local organizations including the Romeoville High School Band, Color Guard and ROTC will help present the service.
