Romeoville to hold Roadside safety checks May 27
The Romeoville Police Department announced that officers would conduct roadside safety checks May 27.
Police Chief Mark Turvey said the safety checks are being done to promote public safety and wellbeing, as well as deter motorists who may not be following vehicular laws. Safety checks will be used to check for unsafe equipment and those driving without insurance, registration or with violations, and for those driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
VNA Health Care to host Safe Kids Fair June 2
VNA Health Care will host a free Safe Kids Fair from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. June 2. The event takes place at VNA’s new clinic, located at 160 N. Independence Blvd., near Romeoville High School. The Romeoville Police Department DARE car will be on display and the Romeoville Fire Department will have a truck available for kids to explore. Children will enjoy free face painting, while parents learn about car seat safety and sports safety. Walk-ins are welcome at VNA for school and sports physicals. The vaccinations and office visit are free for children with Aetna Better Health, Blue Cross Community or Harmony Medicaid Health Plans if VNA is the primary care provider. The fair includes free health screenings, a healthy cooking demonstration with samples, a raffle and more.

Read to Win
As the school year draws to a close, the White Oak Library District is beginning its Read for the Win! Summer Reading Challenge at all three branch libraries: Crest Hill, Lockport and Romeoville. The challenge will begin May 31 and run through July 22.
The Summer Reading Challenge is available for all ages. This year’s theme will focus on challenging everyone to become a winner by reading.
The district encourages everyone to participate in an assortment of programs. The heart of the challenge is reading, and children, teens, and adults will have the opportunity to win fun prizes – just for reading!

Azoosment Park Petting Zoo at the Romeoville Branch at 6:30 p.m., July 13
For the second year, a comic convention will be held at the Lockport Branch.
Comicopolis will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 6, complete with graphic novel artists, writers and independent publishers, face painters for the kids, and goodie bags for all.
Grandparents Day Out offers fun for all ages and will be held at 10 a.m., August 12 at the Crest Hill Branch.
