Wicked weather: Storm knocks out power in parts of Romeoville

Sunday’s storm took out power lines, uprooted trees and threw trampolines across yards.

More than 3,000 households were still without power Monday afternoon as ComEd crews canvassed the area and Romeoville Public Works were out in full force cleaning up the streets of debris, picking up branches and whatever else the high winds scattered.

The wicked weather caused havoc throughout the area. A command center was set up by ComEd at the Edward Hospital Athletic and Event Center where a charging station and water and ice were made available.

The village of Romeoville suggests when removing damaged trees, to use a professional when possible. Romeoville Public Works crews are continuously driving throughout the community to pick up branches. The village requests when possible to keep brush and branches between three and eight feet in length. Brush must be stacked on the parkway in front of the home with the cut ends toward the street. Due to volume, it may take crews several days to remove debris.

When making home repairs, the village also reminds that building permits are required for most home improvements to insure that safety and sound construction practices are followed. For a list of licensed contractors, visit www.romeoville.org.  All fees associated with storm repair will be waived.

Also note, that often after such storms, numerous contractors can be seen soliciting throughout the community.  All solicitors are required to have a permit with them.  A list of permitted solicitors can also be found on the website.
